Dimetrodon Statue

Dimetrodon, often mistaken for a dinosaur, was actually a top-tier predator of the Early Permian period, living long before the first dinosaurs. Growing up to 4.6 meters long, this "two-measure tooth" reptile dominated ancient ecosystems with powerful jaws and teeth specialized for different functions. Its most distinctive feature, a massive, skin-covered sail on its back supported by elongated spines, is believed to have been used for thermoregulation, controlling its body temperature. Despite its reptilian appearance, Dimetrodon is more closely related to the ancestors of mammals than to modern reptiles.
