The Emerald Tablet is the foundational text in Western alchemy and Hermetic philosophy, attributed to Hermes Trismegistus (“Thrice-Greatest”). Known as “the foundation of occult wisdom,” it has inspired alchemists for over 1,000 years.

Full engraved text (1684 Kriegsmann reconstruction – condensed): In truth, without deceit, certain, and most veritable. That which is Below corresponds to that which is Above, to accomplish the miracles of the One Thing. All things come from this One Thing through the meditation of One Mind, via Transformation. Its father is the Sun; its mother the Moon. The Wind carries it; its nurse is the Earth. It is the origin of All, the consecration of the Universe. Its Strength is perfected when turned into Earth. Separate Earth from Fire, Subtle from Gross, gently with Ingenuity. It rises from Earth to heaven and descends again, uniting powers of Above and Below. Thus obtain the Glory of the Universe; all Obscurity becomes clear. This greatest Force overcomes every Subtle thing and penetrates every Solid thing. In this way the Universe was created. From this come wondrous Applications, as this is the Pattern. Therefore am I called Thrice Greatest Hermes, possessing all wisdom of the Universe. Herein I explain the Operation of the Sun.
