Maximize your efficiency and work on up to seven projects at once with the Ultimate Screwdriver!
This overly engineered gag gift uses eight bevel gears nested in a sphere to provide synchronous movement to seven quarter inch hex bit drivers by rotating the handle. Warning: This device has not been work tested!
You will need to print seven “Hex Bevel Gears” and one of each of the other files.
Follow the directions here to seat the seven hex bevel gears within the “Sphere Bottom”: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4673064
To assemble the handle and grip assembly, start by putting the “Grip Top” down over the “Handle extension, ensuring that it rotates cleanly around the ridge at the bottom. With the “Grip Top” in place, glue the “Handle Extension” in to the “Sphere Top with Handle Attachment.”
Next you will be gluing the “Grip Bottom” on to the “Grip Top”. It is essential that the connection is strong, but also that the grip rotates around and is held in place by the ridge on the “Handle Extension.” I recommend first putting a thin layer of Vaseline on the surfaces that will need to move against one another. This will lubricate movement and prevent any glue seepage from binding the rotation of the grip.
Do a dry fit of the key stock mechanism by inserting the “Square Bevel Gear” on one end of the key stock and inserting the other end through the handle extension into the square hole on the grip. You do not need to insert the key stock all the way into either hole, just enough so it is held securely. Remove the key stock and bevel gear. Apply some Vaseline to the inside surface of the sphere that will be in contact with the bevel gear. Apply glue to the ends of the key stock if needed and finish the assembly.
Do a dry fit of the “sphere top with the handle and grip” on to the “sphere bottom” ensuring that the gears do not bind. When you are happy that everything is properly aligned and ready to go, glue the hemispheres together and you’re ready to get to work with your new Ultimate Screwdriver!
